New York Times examines one American's efforts to help Pakistanis with health care

The New York Times profiles the Comprehensive Disaster Relief Services (CDRS) hospital in Chikar, Pakistan, which was started by American Todd Shea after the 2005 earthquake in that country. The aspiring musician's life was turned over to rescue efforts after September 11, when he used his van to "ferry meals to firefighters at Ground Zero," according to the New York Times.

RNAO calls for entries to its 12th annual Awards for Excellence in Health-Care

As the year draws to a close, the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario (RNAO) is asking reporters, editors and producers to look back over their work and enter the 12th annual Awards for Excellence in Health-Care Reporting.

Viewpoints on challenge to contraceptive coverage mandate

This week, the owners of two secular, for-profit corporations will ask the Supreme Court to take a radical turn and allow them to impose their religious views on their employees -; by refusing to permit them contraceptive coverage as required under the Affordable Care Act. The Supreme Court has consistently resisted claims for religious exemptions from laws that are neutral and apply broadly when the exemptions would significantly harm other people, as this one would. To approve it would flout the First Amendment, which forbids government from favoring one religion over another -; or over nonbelievers (3/22).
