Osteoporosis drug increases bone mineral density in the hip and lumbar spine

New research presented at ACR Convergence, the American College Rheumatology's annual meeting, reveals that romosozumab, an osteoporosis drug, produces substantial gains in bone mineral density in the hip and lumbar spine within one year, and that transitioning patients to a potent antiresorptive drug can lead to even more bone density gains.

Patients with Loeys-Dietz syndrome at increased risk for aortic aneurysm

Patients with the connective tissue disorder Loeys-Dietz syndrome are at high risk for aortic aneurysm. LDS results in the presence of missense mutations within either of the genes encoding receptors for TGF-β. LDS-associated mutations are predicted to reduce TGF-β signaling; however, aortic tissue samples from LDS patients indicate that TGF-β signaling may be enhanced.

The State Government of NSW has decided upon a $15 million replacement of nearly 100 school gas heaters especially targeting cold climate areas of NSW. The New South Wales Teachers Federation said in a statement that they will be urging the government to expand the programme to other areas replacing the unflued gas heaters in schools.
