The Wall Street Journal reports that Obama administration officials are stepping up meetings with Senate Republicans in hopes of avoiding a deadline clash over federal spending this fall. One of the flashpoints is the Republican demand to defund Obamacare as part of any deal.
Alzheimer's disease is progressive, but slow to develop - or at least to reveal itself. In a new study, published online February 14, 2020 in the journal Biological Psychiatry, researchers at University of California San Diego School of Medicine, with colleagues elsewhere, report that early, subtle differences in cognitive performance, such as fewer words recalled on a memory test, are a sign that harmful proteins are accumulating in the brain, even if levels of those proteins do not yet qualify as dangerous.
As announced at the 2014 Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health (CADTH) symposium, the Canadian Network for Environmental Scanning in Health (CNESH) has selected Cook Medical's Zilver® PTX® drug-eluting peripheral stent as a top 10 game-changing health technology for 2014. The CNESH top 10 list is designed to encourage the adoption and use of effective, safe health technologies in Canada.
The widely used cancer drug bevacizumab may cause severe loss of protein from the kidney into the urine that can lead to significant kidney damage and can compromise the efficacy of cancer treatment, according to a study appearing in an upcoming issue of the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology. The results suggest that physicians should monitor patients' kidney health when prescribing this angiogenesis inhibitor.
