Three-year safety data from INTREPID study of Oraya Therapy™ for wet age-related macular degeneration results announced

Oraya Therapeutics Inc. announced that full results of three-year safety follow-up data from the INTREPID study of Oraya Therapy™ for wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD) further demonstrated a favorable safety profile and also showed that there was no significant difference in vision outcomes in patients treated with Oraya Therapy compared with those receiving anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) injections alone.

New guidelines for managing latent tuberculosis from CDC

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released new guidelines on treating so-called "latent" tuberculosis (TB) infection in the United States. They suggest the course of the therapy from about 9 months could be shortened to 3 months.

Health overhaul raises regulators' profiles, confuses consumers

Modern Healthcare's 2010 list of the sector's most powerful players is out, and because of the health law, regulators in usually lower-profile federal agencies have carved out places near the top of the roster for the second year in a row. The magazine reports, "Carolyn Clancy, director of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, stood at No. 31 on the list three years ago. This year, just as in 2009, she holds the No. 7 spot. Clancy's clout has risen with the agency, which was created 20 years ago to support and conduct healthcare outcomes research."

Sandra Orsulic, PhD, director of Women's Cancer Biology in the Women's Cancer Program at the Cedars-Sinai Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute, was awarded a $250,000 grant from Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation to study cell metabolism in childhood sarcomas.
