Study explores link between mortality risk and combustible tobacco use

Contemporary population estimates suggest that like cigarette-only smokers, current cigar-only and pipe-only smokers have a higher risk of dying from cancers known to be caused by tobacco, and cigarette and cigar smokers have a higher risk of death from any cause compared with people who never used tobacco.

FDA advisory panel suggests warning for bisphosphonates but does not specify wording

Two independent advisory panels to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Friday recommended increasing the cautionary language on the product labels of bone-building drugs taken by more than five million women in the United States. They did not however mention the exact words of the safety warnings and did not recommend limiting use of the drugs to a proposed five years. About 11 percent of women 55 and older take the drugs to prevent bone fractures.

Federal court's approval clears the way for pricing rollback of pharmaceutical drugs

Purchasers of pharmaceutical drugs including consumers and health plans will soon enjoy a rollback of benchmark prices of some of the most common prescription medications after a Federal Appeals Court last week affirmed the approval of a settlement with two leading drug-pricing publishers, First DataBank, Inc. and Medi-Span, a division of Wolters Kluwer Health, Inc.
