Horrifying research into Britain's injecting drug users

Horrifying research out today in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, suggest that one in 50 and one in 80 adults between the ages of 15 and 44 in London, Liverpool, and Brighton is an injecting drug user. And users are more likely to die of their habit in Brighton, finds the study.

Charles River Laboratories International second-quarter 2010 net sales decline 5.2%

Charles River Laboratories International, Inc. today reported its results for the second quarter of 2010. For the quarter, net sales were $292.1 million, a decline of 5.2% from $308.2 million in the second quarter of 2009. Foreign currency translation reduced the sales growth rate by 0.1%. A modest sales increase in the Research Models and Services segment was offset by lower sales for the Preclinical Services segment.

AFFiRiS' AD02 Alzheimer's vaccine candidate in phase II clinical testing

AFFiRiS AG's clinical Alzheimer's vaccine candidate AD02 has already progressed to phase II clinical testing. It may therefore be possible to confirm the efficacy of the vaccine as early as during 2012. Indeed the start of this efficacy study comes only five months after the completion of the corresponding phase I study. The company is active in several disease areas and is currently developing a total of twelve prospective products in all stages of the development pipeline up to clinical phase II.
