Blood vessels in women age quicker than men's

A new study shows that blood vessels, including large and small arteries, in women, age much faster in women than in men. This is the first time this finding has been reported. The study, published in the journal JAMA Cardiology in January 2020, will be helpful in showing how women are at a different risk for cardiovascular disease, both with respect to the type and the timing, than men.

New combination therapy for TB shows promise in Phase II study

"Results from a groundbreaking trial of three drugs given in combination - one of them completely new and one not yet licensed for this use - killed more than 99 percent of patients' [tuberculosis (TB)] bacteria after two weeks of treatment," and the combination "appears to be equally effective on drug-resistant TB," the Guardian reports.

Study finds decrease in inpatient hospitalizations for the elderly with psychiatric diagnosis

Short-stay inpatient hospitalizations for children and adolescents with a psychiatric diagnosis increased significantly over a 12-year period (1996 to 2007) and decreased for the elderly, according to a report in the early online edition in Archives of General Psychiatry by Joseph C. Blader, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Science at Stony Brook University School of Medicine.
