Hospira announces fiscal 2009 third-quarter results

Hospira, Inc., a leading global specialty pharmaceutical and medication delivery company, today reported results for the third quarter ended Sept. 30, 2009. Net sales for the quarter were $1.0 billion, and adjusted diluted earnings per share were $0.90.

Novel cardiac pump shows superior outcomes in patients with advanced heart failure

Severely ill patients with advanced heart failure who received a novel heart pump—the HeartMate 3 left ventricular assist device— suffered significantly fewer strokes, pump-related blood clots and bleeding episodes after two years, compared with similar patients who received an older, more established pump, according to research presented at the American College of Cardiology's 68th Annual Scientific Session.

Study finds a downward trend in cancer screening when patients see doctors later in the day

Compared to patients who see their primary care doctor earlier in the day, cancer screening rates decline significantly as the day goes on, according to a new study from researchers in the Perelman School of Medicine and the Wharton School both of the University of Pennsylvania.
