$3 billion announced for global malaria action plan to eradicate malaria by 2015

Government leaders, philanthropists, international organizations, not-for-profit groups and corporations on Thursday announced a combined $3 billion in contributions to implement the Global Malaria Action Plan - aimed at eradicating malaria worldwide by 2015 - during the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Meeting on the U.N. Millennium Development Goals in New York, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Gallup survey: States that embraced health law see big drops in uninsured; holdout states are experiencing far less change

The study found that states that expanded Medicaid and set up their own exchanges experienced greater declines in the rate of uninsurance than those that didn't. Nationwide, the percentage of uninsured Americans dropped from 18 percent in September 2013, to 13.4 percent in June 2014, according to the survey.

Study links readmissions with nurse overtime

Fewer patients returned to the hospital soon after leaving when hospitals reduced nurse overtime, according to a newly released study. The research, published in the journal Health Services Research, analyzed records for roughly 1,900 patients at four hospitals during the first half of 2008.
