Dr Dohi said: "Smokers are twice as likely to have a heart attack as people who have never smoked. Quitting smoking is the most important thing people can do to reduce their risk of cardiovascular disease. But until now, studies have not examined whether the increased risk caused by smoking is completely reversed after smoking cessation."

ACGME approves graduated standards for duty hours for residents training in accredited teaching institutions

The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Board of Directors has approved a set of requirements that are a comprehensive approach to patient care, quality improvement, supervision, professionalism, transitions in care, and resident well-being. Included are graduated standards for duty hours for the nation's 111,000 residents training in ACGME accredited teaching institutions. The new standards will go into effect in July 2011.

NEOP receives stockholder approval to increase company shares to 205 milliion

Neoprobe Corporation (OTCBB: NEOP), a diversified developer of innovative oncology surgical and diagnostic products, announced at its 2010 Annual Meeting of Stockholders that it received the approval of its stockholders to increase the number of authorized shares of the Company from 155 million to 205 million. In addition, stockholders re-elected Neoprobe President and CEO David C. Bupp, and elected for the first time, Brendan A. Ford and Eric K. Rowinsky, M.D. as Directors of the Company for terms ending at the 2013 Annual Meeting. Stockholders also approved the appointment of BDO Seidman, LLP to act as the Company's independent registered public accounting firm for 2010.

Soligenix completes enrollment in RiVax Phase 1B ricin toxin clinical trial

Soligenix, Inc., a late-stage biopharmaceutical company, reported today that it has completed enrollment of its Phase 1B clinical trial of RiVax™, a ricin subunit vaccine, in healthy volunteers. Preliminary results indicate that RiVax™ appears safe at all doses tested in volunteers. This trial is designed to assess the duration of immune responses using an adjuvant formulation of RiVax™ over a period of more than one year after vaccination.
