20% of patients demonstrate decrease in body weight, BMI after knee or hip replacement

A Mount Sinai School of Medicine study has found that patients often exhibit a significant decrease in weight and body mass index (BMI) after undergoing knee or hip replacement surgery (arthroplasty). The study is the first of its type to correct for the annual increase in BMI typically found in North Americans between the ages of 29 to 73 years. The study was recently published in Orthopedics.

ADVENTRX Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has accepted the proposed proprietary name "Exelbineâ„¢" for the Company's product candidate ANX-530 (vinorelbine injectable emulsion).

Is divorce bad for the parents?

In a unique study funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, researchers found British adult children help their elderly parents according to current need (i.e. health) rather than past behaviour. This contrasts with other countries such as the US, where parents with a history of divorce see less of their children and receive less help from them.

Novartis today announced that both the US Food and Drug Administration and European Medicines Agency have accepted the company's New Drug Application and Marketing Authorization Application respectively, for investigational oral, once-daily siponimod (BAF312) for the treatment of secondary progressive multiple sclerosis in adults.
