Endo International enters into definitive agreement to acquire Auxilium Pharmaceuticals

Endo International plc and Auxilium Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Endo will acquire all of the outstanding shares of common stock of Auxilium for a per share consideration of $33.25 in a cash and stock transaction.

Lowering blood pressure may reduce risk of kidney disease progression

Keeping blood pressure at a low level in African-Americans with kidney disease may slow the progression of the condition in patients with proteinuria, UT Southwestern Medical Center researchers found in a national study published in The New England Journal of Medicine.

A review of the response to oral anti-diabetes agents in patients with type 2 diabetes

Patients with type 2 diabetes show a progressive decline in glycemic control and receive antidiabetic therapy in order to reach the target glycated hemoglobin level of < 7% set by the American Diabetes Association and the European Association for the Study of Diabetes. An article published in the May 2010 issue of Postgraduate Medicine reviews the effectiveness of oral antidiabetes (OAD) agents in maintaining glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Heparin enoxaparin may provide better outcomes than unfractionated heparin

Results from ATOLL, a phase 3 randomised trial comparing two anticoagulants in primary PCI for ST elevation MI, show that the low molecular weight heparin enoxaparin may provide better outcomes in such cases than the traditionally used unfractionated heparin.
