Eli Lilly receives FDA complete response letter for liprotamase NDA

Eli Lilly and Company has received a complete response letter from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its New Drug Application for liprotamase, a non-porcine pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy, under investigation for the treatment of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency.

UCSD researchers report that statins make women aggressive, but men calmer

Statins are a hugely popular drug class used to manage blood cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of heart disease. Previous studies had raised questions about adverse behavioral changes with statins, such as irritability or violence, but findings with statins have been inconsistent. In the first randomized trial to look at statin effects on behavior, researchers at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine report that aggressive behavior typically declined among men placed on statins (compared to placebo), but typically increased among women placed on statins.

Endovascular brachytherapy may safely and effectively treat femoropopliteal in-stent stenosis

Placement of an endovascular stent has become a common procedure to successfully reopen blocked arteries. Even so, the treated vessel may once again narrow (restenosis), restricting blood flow. In the femoral and popliteal arteries in the leg, the use of nitinol stents magnifies this problem. About 20 to 40 percent of these stent patients experience restenosis 2 years after angioplasty. Now, an improved radiation technique may provide a safe and effective solution.

Autistic children can interpret the mental state of others by looking at their eyes

In findings that contradict previous studies, psychologists found that autistic children can 'read' a stranger's mental state based on that person's eyes. Autistic children have long been thought to be poor at interpreting people's mental states based on facial expressions, especially expressions around the eyes.
