A new study suggests that middle-aged adults recently diagnosed with diabetes and hypertension have time to try to learn how to control their high blood pressure without medications, but not too much time.

iNO therapy for respiratory failure in premature babies does not improve long-term outcomes

Inhaled nitric oxide (iNO), a therapy used in the treatment of premature newborns with respiratory failure that had shown promising results in short-term studies, does not significantly improve long-term outcomes, according to a national study led by critical care researchers at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.

PixelOptics of Roanoke, Virginia USA announced today that Panasonic Healthcare Co., Ltd. of Ehime, Japan will manufacture electronic lenses for PixelOptics' electronic focusing eyeglasses named emPower!™. The emPower! eyeglasses focus faster than the blink of an eye, have no moving parts, and change focus without making a sound. In March of 2010 at Vision Expo East in New York, New York, Pixel and Panasonic announced that they have been working together for the last two plus years to develop and optimize Pixel's electronic lenses.

STERIS first-quarter revenues increase 3% to $291.3 million

STERIS Corporation today announced financial results for its fiscal 2011 first quarter ended June 30, 2010. During the first quarter, the Company recorded the previously announced liability related to the SYSTEM 1 Rebate Program. Of the $110 million pre-tax amount recorded, $102 million is attributable to the Customer Rebate portion of the Program and was recorded as a reduction of revenues, and $8 million is attributable to the disposal of the SYSTEM 1 units to be returned and was recorded as an increase in cost of revenues.

A flexible workplace initiative improved employees' health behavior and well-being, including a rise in the amount and quality of sleep and better health management, according to a new study by University of Minnesota sociology professors Erin Kelly and Phyllis Moen, which appears in the December issue of the Journal of Health and Social Behavior.
