Researchers demonstrate how EGF accelerates division of cell nucleus

Biologists at Heidelberg University have discovered new approaches for the treatment of cancer. They investigated how a special signalling molecule, the epidermal growth factor (EGF), stimulates the separation of chromosomes in the cell. The researchers were able to demonstrate that EGF accelerates the division of the cell nucleus, i.e. mitosis, as well as boosts precision in chromosome segregation.

Synosia's SYN-118 HPPD inhibitor beneficial for Parkinson's patients: Study

Synosia Therapeutics today announced the first clinical study results showing that SYN-118 provides clinically meaningful benefits to Parkinson's patients, has a good safety profile and is well tolerated. Results from an open-label, proof-of-mechanism study of SYN-118 (CL02) were presented at the World Parkinson Congress in Glasgow, Scotland.

Researchers use familial and sporadic patient-derived iPSCs to model Alzheimer's disease

Working with a group from Nagasaki University, a research group at the Center for iPS Cell Research and Application (CiRA) at Japan's Kyoto University has announced in the Feb. 21 online publication of Cell Stem Cell has successfully modeled Alzheimer's disease (AD) using both familial and sporadic patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), and revealed stress phenotypes and differential drug responsiveness associated with intracellular amyloid beta oligomers in AD neurons and astrocytes.
