Adolescent girls participating in high-impact sports may face high risk of stress fractures

Adolescent girls participating in high-impact physical activity, specifically basketball, running and gymnastics/cheerleading, appear to be at increased risk for developing stress fractures, according to a report posted online today that will appear in the August print issue of Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, one of the JAMA/Archives journals.

Preliminary results from Eisai's lenvatinib Phase II trial in thyroid cancer to be presented at ASCO 2011

Preliminary results of a Phase II single-arm study to be presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting showed that Eisai's lenvatinib demonstrated an Objective Response Rate of 59% (34/58, 95% CI: 45-71), based on an updated investigator assessment, in patients with advanced radioiodine (RAI)-refractory differentiated thyroid cancer.

The power required by mobile phones in rural areas where base stations are sparse is significantly higher than in urban areas where base stations are plentiful, concludes research in Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

Sebelius defends phone calls to urge outreach support

At a House hearing Tuesday, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said she did not seek funds from companies, but did ask them to support the outreach efforts of Enroll America, a nonprofit group. She told panel members she made five calls on behalf of the organization.
