Rocky Mountain Region's first Child Life ZONE for pediatric patients and their families

An all-star cast of sports heroes and community activists, including Garth Brooks, Troy Aikman, John Elway, Kyle Orton, Brian Griese, Haven Moses and others, will gather Saturday, April 24th for a VIP ribbon cutting to officially open the Rocky Mountain Region's first - and only - Child Life ZONE. The ZONE is a 3,300 square foot, state-of-the-art therapeutic and educational refuge for Denver Health's pediatric patients and their families.

Women, young people who experienced premium increase more likely to seek health care information

New findings by the Employee Benefit Research Institute show that women, younger individuals, and individuals who experienced an increase in either premiums or cost sharing are more likely to seek information on health care costs, quality, and access in order to make informed decisions. Additionally, people with a higher level of education are also more likely than those with less education to research information.

New, more effective DBS paradigm may manage Parkinson's symptoms

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a devastating and incurable disease that causes abnormal poverty of movement, involuntary tremor, and lack of coordination. A technique called deep brain stimulation (DBS) is sometimes used to improve motor symptoms in patients with advanced disease. Now, a study published by Cell Press in the October 20 issue of the journal Neuron describes a new and more effective DBS paradigm that makes real-time adjustments in response to disease dynamics and progression and may be better for managing symptoms of advanced PD.

New study expands on the heart benefits of exercise

Exercise promotes heart health. However, many lifestyle factors cause heart disease, and regular activity may not be enough to prevent heart attacks. A new study in the American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology expands on the heart benefits of exercise, investigating whether regular exercise still helps the heart even after a heart attack occurs.
