Eli Lilly and Company and Sarah Cannon Research Institute today announced a strategic partnership to co‑develop an investigational oncology compound, LY3023414, a PI3K/mTOR dual inhibitor. Under the agreement, SCRI will collaborate with Lilly to provide clinical development expertise and program design, as well as medical oversight and trial management. Patient enrollment for the initial Phase II clinical trial is underway.
Kaiser Health News staff writer Phil Galewitz reports: "Florida wants to be the first state in the nation to charge most of its Medicaid recipients a monthly premium as well as $100 for using the ER for routine care. But even supporters acknowledge that the new fees, passed recently by the state legislature as part of a sweeping Medicaid measure, face long odds getting federal approval".
A previously unknown link between the immune system and the death of motor neurons in Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, has been discovered by scientists at the CHUM Research Centre and the University of Montreal. The finding paves the way to a whole new approach for finding a drug that can cure or at least slow the progression of such neurodegenerative diseases as ALS, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and Huntington's diseases.
By analyzing complex interactions of the immune system in an animal study, pediatric researchers have found potential tools for controlling a life-threatening condition called a cytokine storm that may strike children who have juvenile arthritis and other autoimmune diseases.
The U.S. is committed to working "closely together to help meet the challenges facing Cambodia and all of Southeast Asia," Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton pledged Monday during a stop in Cambodia as part of her Asia-Pacific tour, that United Press International reports.
