The American Association of Nurse Practitioners is calling on patients and health care providers to combat the undertreatment of chronic pain through strengthened patient-provider communication, awareness and advocacy.
Meara Schmidt, 28, almost died a few weeks ago. Lying in her hospital bed at UCLA, the seriously ill cystic fibrosis patient felt herself slipping away and her life flashing by. But then the image of her husband appeared, and she knew she was not ready to go.
A University of South Florida professor and an international team of experts have found that older people with high levels of a certain type of cholesterol, known as low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C), live as long, and often longer, than their peers with low levels of this same cholesterol.
Arte Corporation and ProJect Pharmaceutics have been working closely on the development of a new type of dual chamber prefillable syringe for freeze-dried pharmaceuticals. The two companies have joined together with the objective to provide innovative dual chamber syringes for the global pharmaceutical market.
Federal regulators have approved a state plan to pay hospitals an additional $87 million this year for the care they provide to low-income Ohioans on Medicaid. The funds will be disbursed to hospitals by the end of this month. The bulk payment and a 5 percent increase in Medicaid reimbursement fees effective in October were included in last year's state budget to let hospitals recoup some of the money they were losing through a new state franchise fee. The fee is projected to cost hospitals statewide $718 million over the two-year budget ending June 30, 2011.
