UCLA researchers have demonstrated for the first time that black tea may promote weight loss and other health benefits by changing bacteria in the gut. In a study of mice, the scientists showed that black tea alters energy metabolism in the liver by changing gut metabolites.
The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, a division of the National Institutes of Health, has awarded NYU College of Dentistry Professors Deepak Saxena, MS, PhD, and Xin Li, PhD, a four-year $1.6M NIDCR grant to study the biological and physiological effects of electronic cigarette aerosol mixtures on oral health.
Researchers at IIT-Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia fabricated an artificial device reproducing a 1:1 scale model of the blood-brain barrier, the anatomical and functional structure that protects the central nervous system from external substances, such as contaminants, but also drugs when they are injected intravenously into the body.
The Foundation for Chiropractic Progress (www.f4cp.com), a not-for-profit organization dedicated to increasing public awareness of the benefits of chiropractic, joins the 92 national associations that are currently members of the World Federation of Chiropractic in support of World Spine Day taking place on October 16, 2009.
