Study finds underlying causes of racial, ethnic disparities in cancer survival

Racial/ethnic disparities in cancer survival in the U.S. are well documented, but the underlying causes are not well understood. To better explain disparities, researchers examined cancer survival by racial/ethnic group for 877,662 patients diagnosed with breast, prostate, colorectal or lung cancer between 2000–2013 using California Cancer Registry data.

Multidisciplinary program to understand the phenomenon of mind within the context of neuroscience

As we seek a better understanding of the workings of the human mind, we are continually confronted by fresh ethical, legal, and social questions. Now, researchers are increasingly emphasizing the role of a new discipline, neuroethics, to guide the search for answers to those questions. This will become even more important as we embark upon an envisioned "Decade of the Mind" in 2010, a multidisciplinary effort dedicated to understanding the phenomenon of mind within the context of neuroscience.
