A study in the May 2012 issue of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery suggests a threshold for when to choose surgery over medical therapy for recurrent acute rhinosinusitis (RARS) based on the patients' lost productivity in response to RARS and each treatment strategy.
UT Southwestern Medical Center cancer researchers have demonstrated that whole-genome sequencing can be used to identify patients' risk for hereditary cancer, which can potentially lead to improvements in cancer prevention, diagnosis, and care.
The Red Cross continued to respond to the needs of Haiti over the weekend as aid workers, relief items and emergency response units arrived in Port-au-Prince. Over 400 Red Cross workers have been deployed to Haiti and 77 tons of Red Cross relief items have landed in Haiti or Dominican Republic. Relief work and aid distribution is underway.
A new blood test to detect Mycobacteria in blood has been developed by a team at The University of Nottingham led by Dr Cath Rees, an expert in microbiology in the School of Biosciences and Dr Ben Swift from the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science.
