On Thursday, January 21, 2010, the Sabrina Cohen Foundation for Stem Cell Research (SCF) is hosting "Accelerate the Cure," a fundraiser with Dr. Joshua Hare, Louis Lemberg Professor of Medicine, Director, Interdisciplinary Stem Cell Institute, University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine.
With one in six people in the United States now affected by brain disease such as dementia, multiple sclerosis and epilepsy, the American Academy of Neurology Foundation is marking its 20th anniversary with the launch of a new public service announcement (PSA) to raise awareness about the need for more research to cure brain disease.
A physician who received an experimental Ebola vaccine after experiencing a needle stick while working in an Ebola treatment unit in Sierra Leone did not develop Ebola virus infection, and there was strong Ebola-specific immune responses after the vaccination, although because of its limited use to date, the effectiveness and safety of the vaccine is not certain, according to a study appearing in JAMA.
