A new study published in Nature Communications shows that infants who are later diagnosed with autism react more strongly to sudden changes in light.
The work of researchers Francesc Viñals and Mariona Graupera at the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute - Catalan Institute of Oncology - University of Barcelona, together with Dr. Antoni Riera-Mestre, has led to a new potential treatment for Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia or Rendu-Osler Syndrome, a rare disease that affects blood vessels and had no described treatment.
In a new study, Indiana University scientists found toxic flame retardants in newly manufactured children's car seats, sparking concerns about children's health. Of the 18 children's car seats tested, 15 contained new or traditional hazardous flame retardant chemicals.
Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors commonly used to control blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes may also reduce the risk of autoimmune diseases in these patients, according to research presented this week at the American College of Rheumatology Annual Meeting in San Diego.
Researchers at Caltech have developed a prototype miniature medical device that could ultimately be used in "smart pills" to diagnose and treat diseases.
