For patients who live in rural areas, driving to see a specialist in a large city or at a university hospital can be challenging, if not impossible.
A deadly new strain of methicillin-resistant Staphylociccus auerus (MRSA) poses an alarming new threat, sparking demand for Unotron's (www.unotron.com) medical grade, fully washable keyboards and mice that can be disinfected to mitigate the spread of germs. A study conducted by the Henry Ford Hospital reported the USA600 strain resists Vancomycin, a drug successfully used in the past to treat patients with MRSA.
More than 25 percent of Medicare beneficiaries who are admitted to the hospital are sent to a post-acute care facility (a health facility like a rehabilitation or skilled nursing center used instead of a hospital) after being discharged.
"It takes only a fraction of a single penny per American taxpayer dollar to train a global health workforce - a workforce that will reach millions through treatment, prevention and counseling services," Ariel Pablos-Mendez, assistant administrator for global health at USAID, and Pape Gaye, president and CEO of IntraHealth International, write in USAID's "IMPACTblog."
Use of the drug aleglitazar, which has shown the ability to lower glucose levels and have favorable effects on cholesterol, did not reduce the risk of cardiovascular death, heart attack or stroke among patients with type 2 diabetes and recent heart attack or unstable angina, according to a JAMA study released online to coincide with presentation at the 2014 American College of Cardiology Scientific Sessions.
