The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the first blood test designed to help predict a patient's risk for ischemic stroke, the most common type of stroke and one of the nation's leading causes of long-term disability affecting approximately 700,000 people per year.

Arrow International has announced a worldwide voluntary recall of its 5800 Series IABs with Super Arrow-Flex Sheath Introducer. This recall is being conducted because of an increase of "stuck in sheath" reports involving the use of the Super Arrow-Flex Sheath with 5800 Series IAB products. When the IAB becomes stuck in sheath, the user is unable to move the IAB catheter forward or backward, potentially causing a delay in critical therapy.
In a new study published on the preprint server medRxiv, researchers evaluated the suitability of the Loopamp SARS-CoV-2 Detection kit from Eiken Chemica, Japan, for detecting SARS-CoV-2. This is a LAMP method that uses dry reagents for RNA amplification.
Researchers at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID)'s Vaccine Research Center (VRC) and the University of Washington School of Medicine's Institute for Protein Design (IPD) developed a universal flu vaccine candidate using small particles (nanoparticles), which can induce a long-lasting immune response.
