Mount Sinai researchers have discovered that microglia, the immune cells that reside in the brain, have a unique origin and are formed shortly after conception. It was previously thought that microglia originated at the same time as macrophages, which are other immune cells that are thought to develop at birth. This groundbreaking discovery has the potential to lead to future treatments of degenerative brain diseases such as Alzheimer's and autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis. The study is published online October 21 in Science Express.
The system for hospice admissions for patients with advanced dementia, which is a terminal illness, should be guided by patient and family preference for comfort, not estimated life expectancy, says a new study published in the Nov. 3 Journal of the American Medical Association by the Institute for Aging Research at Hebrew SeniorLife, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School.
On June 15, 2010, Repros Therapeutics Inc. received notification from NASDAQ that it has not regained compliance with NASDAQ Listing Rule 5550(a)(2) and, unless the Company appeals NASDAQ's decision, trading of the Company's common stock will be suspended and the Company's securities will be delisted from the NASDAQ Stock Market.
