EDMA, the European Diagnostic Manufacturers Association is proud to announce that the multilingual website, Lab Tests Online is now also available in Czech. The website, an online encyclopaedia on laboratory testing and related conditions, has been developed in Czech by the Czech Society of Clinical Biochemistry, CSKB, in cooperation with the national and European Diagnostics industry associations, CZEDMA and EDMA.
Researchers at Oregon State University have discovered that some compounds called polyoxoniobates can degrade and decontaminate nerve agents such as the deadly sarin gas, and have other characteristics that may make them ideal for protective suits, masks or other clothing.
Idera Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced results from its single-dose, dose-escalation Phase 1 clinical trial evaluating the safety and mechanism of action of IMO-3100, its lead Toll-like Receptor (TLR) 7 and TLR9 antagonist drug candidate for the treatment of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
A Wayne State University research team led by Fei Sun, Ph.D., assistant professor of physiology in the School of Medicine, recently received a grant with an anticipated amount of nearly $1.9 million from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health to better understand how this defective protein in cystic fibrosis patients is prematurely digested.
In this Center for Strategic & International Studies "Smart Global Health" blog post, J. Stephen Morrison, senior vice president of CSIS and director of the Global Health Policy Center at CSIS, outlines "five key steps that the U.S. can take, in close partnership with South Africa, to reduce risks and raise the prospects of success" as the countries undergo a transition in lead responsibilities from the U.S. to South Africa in their partnership against HIV/AIDS in South Africa, a transition that Morrison writes is "highly fraught with risks."
