When egg cells form with an incorrect number of chromosomes-a problem that increases with age-the result is usually a miscarriage or a genetic disease such as Down syndrome.
Researchers from the University of Michigan Department of Neurology have received a $1.8 million dollar grant to develop a novel therapy for neuropathic pain, a difficult to treat condition in which patients experience pain because of damage to nerve without obvious tissue injury.
In an upcoming issue of the Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences, published by Elsevier, undergraduate researchers from the University of Alberta's Radiation Therapy Program in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry describe how LGBTQ2SPIA+ patients face unique cancer risks, including fear of discrimination, higher incidence of certain cancer sites, and lower screening rates, resulting in more cancers detected at later stages.
Fit older adults with locally advanced non-small-cell lung cancer reap similar benefit from concurrent chemoradiation with etoposide and cisplatin as younger patients, but experience higher rates of hospitalization and toxicity, research shows.
Researchers working with adult mice have discovered that learning and memory were profoundly affected when they altered the amounts of a certain protein in specific parts of the mammals' brains.
