As e-readers grow in popularity as convenient alternatives to traditional books, researchers at the Smithsonian have found that convenience may not be their only benefit. The team discovered that when e-readers are set up to display only a few words per line, some people with dyslexia can read more easily, quickly and with greater comprehension. Their findings are published in the Sept. 18 issue of the journal PLOS ONE.
In honor of National Autism Awareness Month this April, representatives from Autism Society will preside over the NASDAQ Opening Bell. Nicholas Medovitch, an individual with autism, will ring the bell.
A 36-month demonstration program at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) reported this week an 87.7% reduction in medication administration errors – increasing medication administration accuracy to 98% at six Bay Area hospitals.
For hundreds of years, doctors, nurses and midwives have visually examined newborn babies for the yellowish skin tones that signify jaundice, judging that more extensive jaundice carried a greater risk of illness.
As a part of healthy living campaign four million recipe cards will be distributed to the public. More than a thousand supermarket stores across the country are offering discounts on healthy ingredients such as fruits and vegetables and low fat yoghurts as part of the Department of Health's "Change4Life" public health campaign.
