Scientists from the Center for Applied Medical Research (CIMA) from the University of Navarra investigate whether cardiotrophin 1, a molecule that can be measured in blood, can be used as a diagnostic marker for hypertensive cardiopathy.
BIOCIUS Life Sciences Inc., developers of the RapidFire® high-throughput mass spectrometry system, and BlueSky Biotech, service provider of discovery biologicals, today announced their collaboration to offer the industry's only Sirtuin (SIRT, silent mating type information regulation homolog) enzyme preparations fully-validated in a label-free functional assay.
In an important scientific achievement for women's health, two large Phase III clinical trials - The Ring Study and ASPIRE - have shown that a monthly vaginal ring containing the antiretroviral drug (ARV) dapivirine can safely help prevent HIV-1 infection in women.
LUMEDX Corporation, a leading provider of vendor-agnostic, integrated medical imaging and information systems, announced the completion of an extensive cardiovascular PACS deployment at Iowa Health Systems (IHS). Working together with IHS, a team of technical and clinical experts implemented CardioPACS multi-modality imaging system at ten affiliate hospitals across Iowa and western Illinois in under six months' time. The first site, Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, went live July 3, 2009; by December 16, all ten sites were using CardioPACS.
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has awarded a Rutgers-affiliated company $207,000 to develop a quick and economical analysis of tissue from breast cancer biopsies. The technology is designed to predict how aggressive a common form of breast cancer is likely to be, helping physicians and patients plan effective therapies that minimize side effects.
