Hepatitis B surface antigen level and platelet count at baseline are significantly associated with spontaneous HBsAg seroclearance in hepatitis B virus carriers and those with chronic infection, research suggests.
Many of the public's favorite household brands have joined forces to support the lifesaving work of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, one of the world's premier pediatric cancer research centers. From September 19 - 25, Target guests can help St. Jude in its fight to find cures and save children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases by purchasing participating Procter & Gamble (P&G) brands including Tide, Charmin, Bounty and Pampers as well as other manufacturers' brands at Target stores nationwide.
The class of immunotherapies known as checkpoint inhibitors have proven to be a highly effective and advantageous treatment option for many cancer patients, but they don't work well for everyone, and oncologists have no reliable way to determine in advance which patients are likely to respond to these drugs.
Researchers at Children's Hospital Boston have developed a slow-release anesthetic drug-delivery system that could potentially revolutionize treatment of pain during and after surgery, and may also have a large impact on chronic pain management.
When infected with influenza, the body becomes an easy target for bacteria. The flu virus alters the host's immune system and compromises its capacity to effectively fight off bacterial infections. Now, a team of immunologists at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) and cooperation partners has discovered that an immune system molecule called TLR7 is partly to blame. The molecule recognizes the viral genome - and then signals scavenger cells of the immune system to ingest fewer bacteria.
