On behalf of the 30 million Americans who are affected by one of the nearly 7,000 rare disorders, the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) urges you to pass comprehensive health reform legislation to assure that every American has access to affordable, meaningful health insurance coverage. Failure to pass such long-overdue legislation this year would be devastating for people with rare diseases, and for millions of others burdened by chronic illness.
According to the December 2010 Journal of Nutrition Supplement titled, "Soy Summit: Exploration of the Nutrition and Health Effects of Whole Soy," consensus has been reached among leading soy science experts surrounding three main areas of debate: soy and women's health, soy and heart health, and soy and overall nutrient adequacy. Leading soy experts agree that including soyfoods in a balanced diet will have beneficial effects and improve nutrient intake among the U.S. population.
Researchers have found that when mice are provided with limited access to food, the levels of food and satiety hormone ghrelin rises. This causes increase in motivation to exercise. This may translate to more exercise motivation for humans on intermittent fasting say the researchers.
Health.com/CNN: "The fast-food industry has long been under fire for selling high-fat, high-calorie meals that have been linked to weight gain and diabetes, but the financial health of the industry continues to attract investors - including some of the leading insurance companies in the U.S. ... According to Harvard Medical School researchers, 11 large companies that offer life, disability, or health insurance owned about $1.9 billion in stock in the five largest fast-food companies as of June 2009. …"
The temporary federal subsidy program that helped thousands of unemployed people cover the costs of their health insurance is coming to a close, but government officials are looking for ways to continue it.
