Scientists at the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases have identified a group of proteins that help to regenerate damaged nerve cells. Their findings are reported in the journal Neuron.
Children with an inherited blood disorder called alpha thalassemia make unusually small red blood cells that mostly cause a mild form of anemia.
Recent studies have shown that transplanting induced pluripotent stem cell-derived neural stem cells (iPS-NSCs) can promote functional recovery after spinal cord injury in rodents and non-human primates. However, a serious drawback to the transplantation of iPS-NSCs is the potential for tumor growth, or tumorogenesis, post-transplantation.
This lunchtime seminar entitled "Research and Respiratory Medicine: Addressing future challenges for improved lung health" is being organised by the European Respiratory Society in the context of 2010 the Year of the Lung and under the patronage of Prof. Ioannis A.
