Researchers at Cardiff University have found that online information about ovarian cancer can cause as much worry as comfort for women at high risk of developing the disease, in a new study published in ecancer.
China Biologic Products, Inc., one of the leading plasma-based biopharmaceutical companies in the People's Republic of China, today announced that its indirectly owned subsidiary, Shandong Taibang Biological Products Co., Ltd., recently received approval from the China State Food and Drug Administration to begin clinical trials for its human fibrinogen to be used to treat congenital fibrinogen deficiency and acquired fibrinogen deficiency.
Potentially beneficial brain changes (an increase in the volume of an area known as the hippocampus) occur in response to exercise both in patients with schizophrenia and healthy controls, according to a report in the February issue of Archives of General Psychiatry, one of the JAMA/Archives journals.
Approximately one-third of all high-tech imaging performed in the United States proves medically unnecessary. Specialty benefits management provider HealthHelp announced today the launch of a new program designed to reduce unnecessary radiation exposure and to promote cost-effective treatment planning for the best possible outcome.
A study, performed in mice and utilizing post-mortem samples of brains from patients with Alzheimer's disease, found that a single event of a moderate-to-severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) can disrupt proteins that regulate an enzyme associated with Alzheimer's. The paper, published in The Journal of Neuroscience, identifies the complex mechanisms that result in a rapid and robust post-injury elevation of the enzyme, BACE1, in the brain. These results may lead to the development of a drug treatment that targets this mechanism to slow the progression of Alzheimer's disease.
