Research presented at IDWeek 2012- concludes that despite advances in electronic medical records, mistakes are still commonly made in the prescription of antiretroviral medications for hospitalized HIV-positive patients. At the same time, a trio of studies suggests however, that electronic records in combination with increased clinical education can help to greatly decrease medical errors.
The National Quality Forum (NQF) announced today the release of the Quality Data Set (QDS), a common technological framework for defining clinical data necessary to measure performance and accelerate improvement in patients' quality of care. The QDS framework provides a standardized set of data that should be captured in patients' electronic health records and is applicable to all care settings a patient is likely to use in his or her lifetime.
More than 25 million Americans have diabetes, yet as many as 60 percent of type 2 diabetes patients do not follow treatment plans prescribed by their healthcare provider and about 50 percent fail to meet treatment recommendations for control of blood glucose levels.
Tethys Bioscience, a privately held company, announced today that it has closed a $25 million Series D round of financing led by aeris CAPITAL AG and including Wasatch Advisors as a new investor. All current investors, including MDV-Mohr Davidow Ventures, Kleiner Perkins Caulfield & Byers and Intel Capital participated in the round. Tethys also announced that it has appointed George Rehm, Managing Partner of aeris CAPITAL, to the Tethys Board of Directors.
Although the health risks associated with indoor tanning are clear, tanning bed use among college-aged women is still popular. A new study by UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center researchers suggests that adding images depicting the longer-term impacts of indoor tanning might be an effective health risk communication strategy.
