As expected, physicians will not need to start using a new and controversial set of diagnostic codes called ICD-10 until October 1, 2014, a year later than originally scheduled, the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced today.
Problem drinkers who took a craving-curbing drug whenever they felt the desire to imbibe reported fewer heavy drinking days each month than drinkers who took a look-alike placebo pill, but both groups reported marked reductions in heavy drinking days.
Cancer survivors between 55 and 65 years old who remain cancer-free for two to six years after diagnosis are as likely to be working as their peers who have not had cancer, a new study shows. However, people recently diagnosed with new cancers are less likely to be working.
The headline is that health care spending grew at only 3.9 percent in 2010-;just .1 percent more than the rate of growth in 2009. Combine the numbers from 2009 and 2010 and we're looking at the slowest two-year rate of growth since the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) began keeping tabs on these numbers 51 years ago.
