New research by scientists at the University of Cambridge suggests that chronic cocaine abuse accelerates the process of brain ageing. The study, published today 25 April in Molecular Psychiatry, found that age-related loss of grey matter in the brain is greater in people who are dependent on cocaine than in the healthy population.
New research by the Gladstone Institutes of Cardiovascular Disease (GICD) and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), has revealed the genetic determinants of fat storage in cells, which may lead to a new understanding of and potential treatments for obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. While scientists have long understood that lipid droplets contribute to fat build up in cells, the genes involved in droplet biology have been a focus of extensive research.
Steven Poelzing, an associate professor at the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute, has received a $2.1 million grant from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health for research to combat the nation's No. 1 killer — heart disease.
GeNOsys, Inc. today announced they are sponsoring a Phase I safety trial in collaboration with Nitric Solutions Inc. GeNOsys will be testing their patented nitric oxide generator and nitric oxide producing formula for safety and effectiveness in treating disease. In a parallel study Nitric Solutions will be testing the efficacy of their prophilactic nitric oxide producing formula Nitrisol.
