A new method to produce vaccines that have a longer shelf-life, are cheaper and can be stored without the need for cooling is being presented in the open access journal BMC Biotechnology.
A chemical called bisphenol A - BPA - used in plastic packaging and in the linings of food and beverage cans, may be passed from a mother to her offspring during pregnancy and cause changes in the gut bacteria of the offspring, according to an international team of researchers.
For men, especially older men, dieting may help reduce the risk of gum disease more than for women, according to a new study by researchers at the University of Maryland, Baltimore and other institutions.
Americans who ate a Mediterranean diet-lots of fruits, vegetables, legumes, cereals, some fish and alcohol, and little dairy and meat-had a reduced risk for Alzheimer's disease as they aged. These findings are published in the April issue of Annals of Neurology.
