Older men have higher risk of melanoma: Australian study

Health experts warn that the rates of skin cancer – melanoma, is on the rise among elderly Victorians. This came out as new figures were released yesterday by Cancer Council Victoria that showed that Victorians aged over 55 accounted for two-thirds of melanoma diagnoses, and rural men were at highest risk. In 2008 a total of 2217 Victorians were diagnosed with melanoma and 279 people died. Skin cancer rates have increased by 400 per cent in the past 26 years among older males.

Pesticide exposure on the job related to more strokes, heart attacks

A new study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, September 25, 2019, reports that the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) is increased by 42% in Japanese-American men exposed to high levels of pesticide. This is the first time this outcome has been explored in this group, and indicates that the role played by occupational pesticide exposure in the pathogenesis of CVD needs to be examined.

Regular use of aspirin, acetaminophen and NSAIDs increases risk of hearing loss in men

In a study published in the March 2010 issue of The American Journal of Medicine, researchers determined that regular use of aspirin, acetaminophen and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) increases the risk of hearing loss in men, particularly in younger men, below age 60.
