Galmed Pharmaceuticals Ltd. ("Galmed") today announced the pricing of its initial public offering of 2,837,400 ordinary shares at a public offering price of $13.50 per share, before underwriting discounts and commissions.
Among women in a malaria-endemic region in Kenya, daily iron supplementation during pregnancy did not result in an increased risk of malaria, according to a study in the September 8 issue of JAMA. Iron supplementation did result in increased birth weight, gestational duration, neonatal length, and a decreased risk of low birth weight and prematurity.
More than 60 percent of breast cancer cases involve defects in the same biochemical chain of events within cancer cells- known as the PI3 kinase (PI3K) pathway-but efforts to develop therapies targeting this pathway have met with little success after hundreds of mostly failed clinical trials. Astex Therapeutics, the UK-based biotechnology company developing targeted therapies for oncology and virology, and the Multiple Myeloma Research Consortium announced today the initiation of a Phase II clinical trial of the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor, AT7519, to treat patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma, an incurable blood cancer. The trial is designed to investigate both single agent and combination activity of AT7519 with bortezomib (Velcade®).
