The British Government in a bid to stop common health problems is planning on banning teenage smoking and cheap alcohol and also wants to encourage mothers to breastfeed at work said Health Secretary Andrew Lansley. They are due to publish a public health white paper this week and Mr. Lansley confirmed that the Government had some plans up their sleeve to curb common health problems and health related inequalities. The ‘Tory' right did not appreciate the move saying it amounted to "micromanaging" people's lives.
Hormone therapy continues to be a hotly debated topic. The benefits of estrogen to the heart, however, appear to be universally accepted.
According to British Prime Minister David Cameron, every NHS patient should be a "research patient" with their medical details "opened up" to private healthcare firms. The PM announced that all those who use the NHS in England will be helping in the fight against disease by helping advance research. He hopes the result will be that patients get faster access to new treatments and Britain's life sciences sector will become a world leader.
"Nine female polio vaccinators have been killed in two shootings at health centers in northern Nigeria, police have told the BBC," the news agency reports. "In the first attack in Kano the polio vaccinators were shot dead by gunmen who drove up on a motor tricycle," and "[t]hirty minutes later gunmen targeted a clinic outside Kano city as the vaccinators prepared to start work," BBC News writes.
