According to a large U.S. study, soda drinks, whether they be diet or regular, are linked to an increased risk of metabolic syndrome among middle-age adults.
A shift last year by the federal government in how it pays for drugs to treat dialysis patients may have had an unintended and potentially dire consequence, according to new research: a significant jump in blood transfusions for patients who now may not be getting enough of the medications.
HIV/AIDS program grants made by U.S.-based foundations totaled $618 billion in 2008, an 11 percent increase from the previous year, according to a new report by Funders Concerned About AIDS, the Chronicle of Philanthropy reports. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation accounted for the majority of the grants, and when it was "excluded, foundation giving [for HIV/AIDS] actually declined 3 percent compared to 2007."
Emergency Medicine Physicians, Ltd. has been named in the Top 100 Places to Work in Healthcare in the United States by Modern Healthcare magazine for the third year consecutively. Only 15 companies nationwide have had that distinction. EMP, whose headquarters are located on Dressler Road in Canton, was ranked number four among companies with 100-999 employees, and number 13 overall in the nation for all participating healthcare companies.
With its official opening ceremony today, the Maryland Forensic Medical Center became the latest addition to the 10-acre University of Maryland BioPark in Baltimore.
