Researchers uncover why some cancers grow faster than others

University of Toronto researchers have uncovered why some cancers grow faster than others. The team led by Liliana Attisano, Professor in U of T's Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research, has identified a protein called NUAK2, which is produced by cancer cells to boost their proliferation and whose presence in tumors is associated with poor disease prognosis.

Xeomin receives FDA approval for treatment of cervical dystonia

Merz Pharmaceuticals today announced that the United States Food and Drug Administration has approved Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA), a botulinum toxin type A for the treatment of adults with cervical dystonia or blepharospasm. According to an epidemiology study conducted in Rochester, Minnesota, the prevalence of focal dystonia, which includes cervical dystonia and blepharospasm, is estimated at 295 per million people in the U.S.

IBMT linked with positive structural changes in brain connectivity

A Texas Tech University scientist studying the Chinese mindfulness meditation known as integrative body-mind training (IBMT) said he and other researchers have confirmed and expanded on changes in structural efficiency of white matter in the brain that can be related to positive behavioral changes in subjects practicing the technique for a month and a minimum of 11 hours total.
