Conference attendees express concern over growing burden of NCDs

Inter Press Service reports on "a conference organized by the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA) on World Cancer Day [February 4] in Geneva," during which experts warned about the growing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) - "cancer, heart disease, diabetes and chronic respiratory diseases, among others" - especially in low- and middle-income countries.

NBTY, Inc., a global leader in vitamins, nutritional supplements and sports nutrition, today announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Dr. Organic, a leading naturally inspired skincare line in the UK. Drugs approved for various conditions also have antibiotic properties

A number of drugs already approved to treat parasitic infections, cancers, infertility and other conditions also show promise as antibiotic agents against staph and tuberculosis infections, according to a new study by University of Illinois chemists and collaborators. Because these agents act against multiple targets within the bacteria, it may be harder for bacteria to develop resistance.
