Over-exposure to noise can cause more lasting changes to auditory circuitry

We all know that it can take a little while for our hearing to bounce back after listening to our iPods too loud or attending a raucous concert. But new research at the University of Michigan Health System suggests over-exposure to noise can actually cause more lasting changes to our auditory circuitry - changes that may lead to tinnitus, commonly known as ringing in the ears.

Link found between teenage viewership and alcohol advertising on cable television

A new study from the Center on Alcohol Marketing and Youth, in collaboration with UCLA, has found a striking correlation between teenage viewership and the frequency of alcohol advertising on cable television. The findings show that ads for beer, spirits and "alcopop" aired much more frequently when more teens were watching.

North Shore-LIJ Health System seeks oropharynx patients for phase I clinical trial

The North Shore-LIJ Health System Department of Radiation Medicine announced today it is seeking patients with cancer of the oropharynx (back of the mouth) to participate in a Phase I clinical trial.Subjects must be newly diagnosed and not have undergone any previous treatment. Further, their cancer must be unassociated with the human papilloma virus (HPV-negative), or, if it is HPV-positive, they must be current or former pack-a-day smokers for at least 10 years.

Caritas Christi Health Care implements MedAptus' Intelligent Charge Capture suite

MedAptus(R), the market leader for charge capture technologies, today announced that Caritas Christi Health Care, also based in Boston, has implemented the company's Intelligent Charge Capture suite for revenue and compliance enhancement initiatives. The organization selected MedAptus' Practice Plus Edition on BlackBerry smartphone devices and web-enabled workstations for the capture of physician inpatient charges. In addition, Caritas Christi is rolling out the MedAptus Facility Edition for the capture of outpatient clinic charges, starting in the area of cardiology.
