CHPA praises signing into law of anti-methamphetamine bill

The Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA) today applauded Ohio Governor John Kasich for signing into law House Bill 334, an anti-methamphetamine bill authored by Representative Terry Johnson (R-Portsmouth) and Representative Danny Bupb (R-West Union). With the new law, Ohio now becomes the 25th state to adopt real-time, stop-sale technology known as the National Precursor Log Exchange (NPLEx).

Penwest Pharmaceuticals reports net income of $3.9 million for first-quarter 2010

Penwest Pharmaceuticals Co. today announced its financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2010. Compared with the first quarter of 2009, first quarter 2010 revenues increased sharply to $8.8 million, and operating expenses decreased by 20%. The Company had net income of $0.12 per share for the first quarter of 2010.

Study: 15,000 pregnant women show decreased amount of prevalence of HSV type 2

In a study that included approximately 15,000 pregnant women, seroprevalence of herpes simplex virus (HSV) type 2 decreased substantially between 1989 and 2010 while there was no overall decrease for HSV type 1, but a slight increase among black women, according to a study in the August 20 issue of JAMA.
