Women's health before pregnancy influences health of fetus and mother-to-be: Study

A woman's health status before pregnancy is critical for the health and wellbeing of the fetus and mother-to-be. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has set Healthy People 2020 national objectives for women of reproductive age, and young women are making important gains toward achieving some of those health goals, while some trends are less encouraging, as reported in a study published in Journal of Women's Health, a peer-reviewed publication from Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., publishers.

Moderate drinking is associated with decline in brain health, claim researchers

Even drinking moderate amounts of alcohol is associated with an increased risk of brain damage and impaired cognitive function, say researchers. Heavy drinking has previously been associated with adverse brain outcomes, but few studies have looked at whether moderate drinking also is.

Senate Health Committee votes to repeal written informed consent in HIV testing bill (AB 682), notes AHF

AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), the US' largest provider of HIV/AIDS healthcare, prevention and education, and operator of the largest non-government HIV testing program in California which conducts more than 15,000 HIV tests annually, has lauded the California State Senate Health Committee for its vote in favor of Assembly Bill 682, California's Routine HIV Screening Bill, which will now move on to the Senate Appropriations Committee.
