Researchers evaluate the effect of chemical cocktails on humans and the environment

Throughout our lives we are exposed to an enormous range of man-made chemicals, from food, water, medicines, cosmetics, clothes, shoes and the air we breathe. At the request of the EU, researchers at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, have looked at the risk of "chemical cocktails" and have proposed a number of measures that need to be implemented in the current practice of chemical risk assessment.

New prenatal genetic test results in more clinically relevant information

A large, multi-center clinical trial led by researchers from Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC) shows that a new genetic test resulted in significantly more clinically relevant information than the current standard method of prenatal testing.

Janssen's NUCYNTA ER tablets more effective in providing pain management in adults with DPN

Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced the results of an investigational Phase 3 study suggesting NUCYNTA ER (tapentadol) extended-release tablets were significantly more effective than placebo in providing pain management among adults with chronic moderate to severe, painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy.

University of Pittsburgh invites media to participate in the eds-meds tour program

Media are invited to participate in the science and technology tours being held in conjunction with the Pittsburgh G-20 Summit Sept. 24-25. Twelve one-hour tours—hosted by the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center—are being offered on Monday, Sept. 21. They will highlight the science and technology that is driving the region's economy.
