Breast cancer mortality rate has dropped massively over last 30 years

The rate of mortality from breast cancer has fallen by one third over the last 30 years. This is due to improvements in early detection, the refinement of treatment concepts and the development of new ones.

Boehringer Ingelheim's new afatinib-cetuximab phase Ib data in NSCLC presented at ASCO 2011

Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. will present new phase Ib data at the 2011 American Society of Clinical Oncology annual meeting in Chicago that indicates combining its investigational therapy afatinib with cetuximab at the maximum tested dose controlled disease in all (n=22) treated epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-mutation positive patients with non-small cell lung cancer who developed acquired resistance to treatment with a reversible EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor.

Oxygen Biotherapeutics to commence study to determine efficacy of Dermacyte in relieving Histamine induced pruritus

Oxygen Biotherapeutics, Inc. has announced that enrollment for the company's first dermatological study will begin later this month at St. John's Medical College Hospital in Bangalore, India. The company received formal approval from the hospital's Ethics Review Board in December. This study is the first of a series of trials scheduled for 2012 to explore the efficacy of Dermacyte to treat a variety of dermatological conditions, such as allergic contact dermatitis, psoriasis and acne.

Software that simulates blood flow receives George Bell Prize for world's fastest supercomputing application

Researchers at New York University's Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences have received the George Bell Prize, given to the world's fastest supercomputing application, for creating software that simulates blood flow. The award, which includes a cash prize of $10,000 and is given by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), is shared with researchers at Georgia Tech and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
